ABOUT ME

Born in Mendoza, Argentina, Hector Calderon is one of five siblings. He moved to Cali, Colombia, at an early age; and completed his high school and university studies, ultimately obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. While being a student at the university, Hector took several art classes, learning about different painting techniques on canvas utilizing oil, acrylic & pastels. In the late 1990’s, Hector moved with his wife to the United States, where he continued his passion for art. He and his family currently reside in Glenview, IL.

"My artwork takes an emotional and critical view of the natural essence of the human being and its powerful, beautiful and chaotic environment. In my work, I show the colors of life, dreams and images that are part of my deep emotions, feelings and culture influenced by my experiences in the lands of Colombia and of the United States.

While I use a variety of processes and materials in each painting, my methodology is consistent and my paintings have a mixture of modernism and abstract art. My favorite canvas sizes to work on are medium and large. The materials I prefer to use are acrylic and oleo, or a combination of both. The subject matter, themes and meanings of each of my paintings, determine the forms and materials I decide to use.

I hope that my artwork has the power to engage and empower, bringing you (the viewer) into the present moment".
